Bungie Sunsets Destiny 2 with Final Patch in June

After months of speculation and effectively silence from Bungie, the future of Destiny 2 has finally been revealed.

In an official blog post on Bungie's blog, the company has announced that it plans to discontinue any active development on the game after a final major patch on June 9. The company has said that it plans to support the game's servers (as it has done with the original Destiny).

The final patch will introduce new modes, and a final ode to Guardians in the form of the Monument of Triumph which will appear in the Tower, allowing players to complete challenges to earn in-game cosmetics, weapons, and more. Players will also be able to earn a final Title and armour ornament set which intends to "immortalize" players who have played the looter-shooter over the years.

In addition to the celebration, the update will reprise the Director, the galaxy map which was controversially hidden in 2025 in favour of the Portal, a menu-based system took over as the main way for players to access activities. Bungie says that the Portal will still exist through the Director, with some updates made to it but it will no longer be the primary way to access content.

The update will also re-introduce the Pantheon 2.0 mode, a boss-rush mode which will expand over the course of June 9 through June 16, with a Gauntlet activity launching on June 13, where players will be able to fight through all available bosses in a single playthrough. TEST
